Tormented City
Fifty years ago, Delhi was a pristine place, not yet discovered by the nouveau riche. Derided as an ‘overgrown village’ by Bombayites, it had broad roads, little traffic, a surfeit of trees and most importantly clean, fresh air.
An eight-year-old boy drowned to death in a drain on Tuesday, police said.
The boy, Shankar, a resident of Naya Gaon, was passing through the village and when he accidentally fell into the drain along the main road, Noida, Phase 2, SHO, Shawez Khan said.
A police team rushed there but the boy died before he could be pulled out, he said. The child’s body has been sent for post-mortem, he said.
